Though I generally tend to write about what's going on in my neighbourhood, or at least within the City of Vancouver, I recently heard about a neat festival that's happening in Richmond: the 10th annual Maritime Festival. It takes place at the Britannia Heritage Shipyards Nation Historic Site from August 9 –11, 2013, 11:00am to 6:00pm.
If you didn't know, Britannia is British Columbia's oldest shipyard. The festival will bring our maritime history to life with fun, maritime-themed décor, colourful characters & fascinating exhibits with surprises around every corner. There will be free boarding of the tall ship Lady Washington, which featured in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl & Star Trek: Generations!Festival goers will be entertained by music, roving performers, painters, wood carvers, potters, stilt walkers, puppets, storytellers, dancers, drummers, & much more. Visitors can learn local lore or try their hand at a variety of arts & crafts. One of the craft activities at the event will be making sock puppets. If you have any clean odd socks, bring a few & drop them off to have a new life as fabulous new puppet creations.
The Richmond Maritime Festival sounds like a great day out for kids of all ages. I hope we can make it this year!
