25 Days of Christmas

I found this variation on the Advent calendar in the blogosphere (on PhD in Parenting) & think I might adopt it next year. The 25 Days of Christmas is a brilliant way to organize your December & do some fun activities. It takes the focus of the month off consumerism & puts it on quality time together with your family.

I can think of so many fun holiday activities to do with kids. Besides the places to visit (Van Dusen Gardens, Trinity Street Light Festival, Christmas Train, Santa at the mall, Winter Solstice Lantern Festival) there are all the crafty activities: baking cookies, making salt dough ornaments, sewing things, potato printing wrapping paper, stringing popcorn into garland for the tree, making paper chains, wrapping gifts, decorating the house, cutting out paper snowflakes, making Christmas cards. Then there are the traditional winter activities that we can do despite the warm, wet winters we have here: ice skating, tobogganing (up on the mountains), snowshoeing or cross country skiing.

I have to say, having Sprout has renewed my excitement in Christmas. :)
