Book Review: Tortillas to the Rescue Cookbook

Jessica Harlan's Tortillas to the Rescue: Scrumptious Snacks, Mouth-Watering Meals and Delicious Desserts--All Made with the Amazing Tortilla promises 100 Quick & easy recipes. I'd have to say, it delivers. When I flipped through the book, I found that a lot of the recipes used ingredients that I already have around the house. Now, before you say, "Well, duh. Burritos & wrap sandwiches are easy, but why do I need a recipe book for those?" you should know that the book covers a lot more than just wraps. There is wide variety of non-wrap recipes including soups, desserts, sandwiches, main dishes & more. The recipes are clearly explained, short & sweet.

Jessica Harlan's advice on warming the tortillas with a crepe pan was brilliant. I'd never thought to do that before & it made all the difference, warming & softening the tortillas to be easier to work with as well as tastier to eat.

The first recipe we tried was a breakfast wrap (The Ultimate Breakfast Burrito on page 27), which turned out delicious. Sprout still doesn't really understand sandwiches (he just disassembles them most of the time) but he's getting into wraps. It's a great way for me to hide leafy things like spinach that he wouldn't otherwise eat. I think Tortillas to the Rescue is going to be in heavy rotation on our cookbook shelf.

If you're a fan of Tex-Mex food, simple recipes & creative ways to use up leftovers, I recommend picking up a copy of Tortillas to the Rescue: Scrumptious Snacks, Mouth-Watering Meals and Delicious Desserts--All Made with the Amazing Tortilla .
