Volunteers Needed
Science World Interpretive Garden Build - "How Does Your Garden Grow?"
Friday, October 5, 2012 / 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
Please join Projects in Place and ING DIRECT in adding even more green to the new Ken Spencer Science Park at Science World at TELUS World of Science.
Your
help will contribute to a permanent interactive exhibit on the science
of sustainability and play a huge role in creating community dialogue on
environmental and food security issues. All the efforts put into this
project will directly foster the education of children and their
families in making greener choices for a better world.
Science
World’s science facilitators will also be present to provide additional
hands-on activities and facilitate interpretation of the ideas raised
by this project.
Build activities will include:
- Installing a green roof on top of a chicken coop and garden shed;
- Creating a vertical growing space for herbs;
- Planting raised bed vegetable gardens;
- Constructing an aeroponic garden system
Volunteers
of all ages are needed to help build the project components, including
digging, planting and light construction and assembly. Be prepared to
roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty—bring your own gloves and
garden hand tools if you have them.
SIGN UP on the Projects in Place website for a morning shift (10:00 am – noon) or afternoon shift (1:00 – 3:00 pm) or both
Lunch will be provided courtesy of build sponsor ING DIRECT
Thank you for your support!
