Happy New Year

May your 2014 be filled with love!
I can remember what I was doing on New Year's Day most of the last 25 years. Those early ones, when I was in my mid-teens, I'd have been waking up at another family's house after a babysitting sleepover & eating pancake breakfast. Then there are the ones where I was waking up hungover after what was usually a disappointing house party or a somewhat boring special event that I'd paid too much for. Some of the years in the past dozen I got myself downtown & dunked in English Bay for the Polar Bear Swim.

This year, on New Year's Day I didn't wake up hungover, as I can't really drink enough between breastfeeding sessions to bring one on. We're getting together with my three generations of my family for our annual potluck eat-stravaganza. I'll come home bloated with cookies, squares, tarts, sausage rolls, & other pastries. We'll exchange gifts between people who hadn't yet gotten together on Christmas--mostly the kids--while listening to cheesy old Christmas music & trying to keep the ever-growing number of small children (now six!) from destroying my sister's condo.

It'll be tiring but lovely. I really appreciate having all of my family living in the Lower Mainland, especially at this time of year.

Do you have any special New Year's Day traditions? What did you do this year?
