Glowing: A Reproduction Production (GIVEAWAY)

Besides the baby countdown that's going on around here (33 days!), we're also counting down until one of Vancouver's best events: The Fringe Festival.

From September 5-15, there are more than 600 performances by 89 artists over 11 days on Granville Island & at other theatrical venues around the city. I wanted to let you know about one Fringe show in particular this year: “Glowing: A Reproduction Production”. To help promote the show, I'm giving away tickets!

Before I get to the contest details, let me give you a quick synopsis of the show:

You've heard that old chestnut about pregnant woman having that "glow", right? For Mary-Jo Dionne... not so much. Mary-Jo, writer and performer of “Glowing: A Reproduction Production” was inspired to create her darkly comic one-woman show after she experienced her last episode of melanoma during an already-horrific pregnancy.

Mary-Jo's thirty-minute performance covers her experiences as a 40-year-old woman who, after countless obstacles, including adoption attempts, eventually becomes pregnant – resulting in an experience that is anything but a glowing one. As if all-day "morning" sickness isn't bad enough, at seven months along, a cancer diagnosis leaves her deciding whether or not she should go through with a potentially life-saving amputation.

About Mary-Jo Dionne:

Mary-Jo & Majella, Tanya King Photography
Mary-Jo Dionne is an award-winning writer whose work was called "A masterpiece in urban satire that will have you laughing so hard you'll glow," by the Globe and Mail. As a comedian, she has performed in Vancouver, Toronto, New York, and LA and was named a finalist for Vancouver's Funniest New Female Comedian. As a writer, she has interviewed notable greats like Ellen DeGeneres, Cloris Leachman, and Katherine Heigl, among others. She trained at the London Academy of Media, Film and Television in the UK, as well as at the American Comedy Institute in New York City. A three-time survivor, she is an ardent spokesperson in the realm of melanoma awareness.

& now for the GIVEAWAY part... Here's the deal: I've got four tickets to give away to two lucky readers: two for Mary-Jo's show on Sunday, Sept 8 at 2:45pm & two for Monday, Sept 9 at 6:45pm. “Glowing: A Reproduction Production” is at The Revue Stage on Granville Island, Vancouver, BC.

    1. Oh, ack. I didn't gain much when I had nausea, but then made up for lost time as soon as it ended, LOL. Grew out of some of my mat clothes a whole trimester earlier than last time. :P

  4. My extreme aversion to TOOTHPASTE. It was horrible. Toothpaste was the only thing that made me vomit. I did not have morning sickness. I had toothpaste sickness. I spent a fortune trying to find a toothpaste that didn't made me sick but I never did.

    1. Oh noes! That's awful. I had an aversion to Rooibos tea for a while (it's normally one of my faves, as I can't seem to handle much caffeine & have been off black & most green tea for years), but toothpaste, agh.

  7. My pregnancy was pretty heinous. The morning sickness was relatively short lived (a mere 4 months lol), but I had no idea that heartburn could be so debilitating. There were very few foods that didn't cause me agony and I couldn't sleep at night. Between 7 and 8 months I lost 10lbs. Too bad I couldn't keep that momentum up after she came out. Mmmm, raspberry lemon cupcakes.

Looks like a great show for a moms' night out.
