Listicles: 10 Things I'm Looking Forward To

Enjoying our new deck is tops on the list.

It's been a while since I participated in NorthWest Mommy's Listicles, but the new year seems like a great time to start again. & 10 Things New is a great way to begin 2014. Of course, I had to put my own spin on it. Some of them aren't totally new, or they're new for just Brontë, so I'm titling it 10 New Things I'm Looking Forward To This Year.

  1. Using our newly renovated back deck. It was finished literally hours before Brontë was born, then by the time we'd emerged from the newborn haze, the weather had cooled down enough that we weren't really able to take advantage of it with barbeques or just hanging out there.
  2. Getting back into shape again. If you read my New Year's resolutions, you'll remember that this was #1 on my list. I'm trying not to focus on fitness in terms of how I look or what clothing size I am, but rather how I feel. At the moment, I feel really winded if I need to chase Linnaeus down in the park, I get fatigued from hauling the stroller up the stairs to our front door & I just feel ungainly & slow when I run for a bus. I want to change that.
  3. Completing my first daily photo challenge: #365FeministSelfie. For more on that (you should join too!) read my post here.
  4. Camping with the kids. This isn't totally new: we've been camping before, but not since Linnaeus was born. Cross your fingers for me that it won't be a total gong show.
  5. Getting rid of some of the baby gear we've had around, waiting for child #2 to use it. By the end of the year, we'll be done with the exersaucer, standing table, activity mat, bassinet, swing, bath rest & probably a lot more that I've forgotten about.
  6. Getting a full night's sleep. None of this six-hours-a-night stuff: a whole eight hours straight. On a regular basis. Expecting this by the end of 2014 might just be jinxing myself with a baby & a three-year-old, but I'll keep dreaming, nonetheless.
  7. Brontë learning to talk. She's already very vocal, responding with squeals & burbles to people, & babbling away for a couple hours a day. I suspect she'll be an early talker.
  8. Saying goodbye to my twice daily pumping routine. I don't mind it most days--it's become routine & if it means baby B gets 100% breast milk because of it, then I'm willing to hold out for another few months. But I will be celebrating when I can quit!
  9. Doing Baby Led Weaning with Brontë. It was so much fun watching Linnaeus explore all the flavours & textures of food in his first year of solids. I'm excited to start it all over again with my daughter in March.
  10. The best one is last: Cycling with the whole family! As soon as Brontë's head is big enough to fit a helmet--I'm guessing that will be in May--we'll get her on wheels with the rest of us.

  1. Those are really great things to looking forward to. I too am looking forward to a better body shape with more exercise. I still haven't gotten back into shape after baby #3 and she is already 3 years old.

    1. Three kids must make it tough to find time for yourself... Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Those are all great things to look forward to, especially the sleep! I have three kids - the youngest is 3 - and I still crave sleep. I'm just pooped at the end of the day. And good luck with the camping - I think that is a great vacation with young kids. Definitely a lot of work, but so much fun to enjoy the great outdoors. :)

    1. I have lots of great memories of camping with my family when I was little, so I want my kids to have the same. Hopefully it'll be doable starting this year.

    1. Yeah, I'm really enjoying the brief moments where we're all on the couch & nobody's crying or needing anything. More of that, please!

    1. Haha! It's really not a big deal to take a phone photo of myself daily. Also, as the goal of it is to be authentic & show myself as I really am, not a glammed up or edited version, there's little preparation involved. :) Thanks for stopping by!

  6. Great list! Camping sounds great. I have been wanting to do more of that.

For this year, I am just looking for a fresh start.

    1. I think a lot of us took a Listicles break for a while there--I remember stopping by NorthwestMommy a couple months ago, I think it was, & there weren't even ten entries! Glad to see the community coming back. :)

  9. My major goal for 2014 is to increase my strength training. After a long illness last year, it threw my muscles out of whack. My stamina returned with regular aerobic exercise and moderate routines that included compound movements, but I'm ready to get vamped!

Your approach to getting back into shape is a good one. It takes time to easy yourself into a fitness cycle. I recall after my 3rd child's birth. I gained way more than I should have, homeschooled my then 6 & 4 year olds, worked in a few house chores when I could, and had little to no time for myself to exercise. I was quite discouraged. Thankfully, I found my niche and burned off the excess post-pregnancy pounds returning to my normal weight. Now, my kids are grown and we are empty nesters. I have a few unwanted pounds, but that will come off when I get active again with strength training & continued aerobic workouts. Best of luck to you & it was nice to meet you, LIsa!

  10. Such a sweet list! I definitely understand looking forward to the end of pumping. I couldn’t wait with both my kids! I’m also right there with you on the baby stuff. How is it that little babies require such huge gear…and massive quantities of it too?

    1. Thanks! It's a tradeoff where I put up with cluttering my house up for the convenience of having something other than my arms to help baby get to sleep, etc. :)
