Review: Uprising Bread

What is it?

Uprising Bread

Why is it good?

Our household staple is the Cracked Wheat & Sunflower loaf, 650g of dense wheaty goodness. We're big fans of  German-style heavy bread here: Sprout actually prefers the denser stuff to the fluffy North American loaves. This stuff fits the bill, while coming in a nice pre-sliced sandwich shape. One of my personal pet peeves is bread that shreds when you spread peanut butter on it--Uprising breads hold up well. I love the nutty sunflower seeds in there (that's probably the reason why there's 5g of protein per slice) in sandwiches & particularly when fried up as french toast.

More reasons to love Uprising Breads after the jump...

Uprising has been around for over 30 years & was one of the front runners when it came to providing natural breads & baked goods to Vancouver. When you read the ingredients list, it doesn't look like a chemistry experiment: they don't use any artificial preservatives & if there is sweetener in the product, it will be either honey or molasses. I like being able to pronounce all the ingredients in my bread: Whole wheat flour, sunflower seeds, cracked wheat, honey, yeast, canola oil, salt, blackstrap molasses. Simple.

Where can I get it?

Bakery Café locations at 1697 Venables Street in East Vancouver, the new West Side location at 3066 West Broadway, by ordering through SPUD or at many grocery stores in the Lower Mainland.

How much does it cost?

$4-4.50 a loaf

*I wasn't compensated in any way to write this review. We just love their bread & have been eating it for years.

  1. I've been eating their bread for over a decade. Love the Finish loaf and the vegan chocolate thingies.

    1. Yeah, I think I've been getting it in my SPUD boxes for about that long. Their Gingersnaps are The Awesomes too.
